Google Phone Hidden Menu

Have you seen the Hidden Menu in ? Well Mobile Blog has just announced about it. added a hidden menu, which it revealed today on the Google Mobile Blog.

It may seem surprising that no one found it earlier, but when you try to get to it you’ll see why. When you launch the Google app and select the settings area, you’ll see a few options to configure the app. But while it may not look like there’s anything below the “About” selection, swipe your finger upward to go below. See anything? You probably don’t yet — keep swiping.

It takes a little bit of effort, but eventually a “Bells and Whistles” menu appears below the “About” menu. Clicking on this takes you to a new screen with even more options for the app including the ability to change its color to anything you want, the option to have the app’s default sound replaced by monkey or chicken noises, an option to see live waveform show up as you talk and the option to open links in the app itself (which really should have been a regular option in the first place).

It’s an interesting use of the iPhone’s touch feature to reveal an Easter Egg.

Enjoy all your IM friends in one cool place

I just found out that Messenger and Windows Live Messenger two of major player in chatting can now merge. See the post over at the Messenger Site.

Enjoy all your IM friends in one cool place

Group hug! Now use Yahoo! Messenger to share instant messages with friends who are on Windows Live Messenger. Now all your friends can be on your contact list so you can easily see when they’re online, and IM them whenever you want. How fun is that? Especially when you can spice up your IMs by using fun emoticons and “Buzzing” to get their attention.

See their online status in your contact list

Once you’ve added a Windows Live Messenger friend, they’ll show up on your Yahoo! Messenger contact list. That way you can tell if they’re online. Plus if you send an IM while they’re offline, they’ll get the message once they log back on.

And best of all, it’s absolutely free. So start sharing IMs (and more) today with all your friends that use Windows Live Messenger.

It is good that they are merging. Is it a move to put down Skype ?

Google settles suit over American Blind & Wallpaper Factory

It is good to know that Google settles suit over ad keywords which may have an effect to us advertiser of they loose. In an article published by MercuryNews.com they have explained on how did this happen.

settled a lawsuit with American Blind & Wallpaper Factory on Friday, ending a long-running battle about whether its keyword-advertising policy infringed trademarks.

Eric Goldman, director of the High Tech Law Institute at Santa Clara University, said the outcome amounted to a “stunning victory” for Google.

American Blind sued Google four years ago for selling ads to its competitors that were triggered by search terms, also known as keywords, that exactly or nearly matched its brands. A verdict that found Google had infringed trademarks could have had major implications for Internet advertising.

And the best thing is they settled it and it will not affect our earnings.

Google Searches Made Easy

google_ad_section_start–>

How much time do you spend searching in google? And then after your searches it result to nothing. So I suggest be smart on searching the net. Below syntax is very useful in finding information in the internet.

intitle:

This syntax restricts a search to titles of Web sites; it can be effectively combined with other syntaxes to customize a search.  An alternative syntax, allintitle: looks for all the words in the title of a Web site; allintitle: does not mix well with other syntaxes.

Example: intitle:”bob marley” “popular music”

inurl:

This syntax restricts a search to the URLs of Web sites.  It can be an effective way to find sites from within a , directory or path; it can also be effectively combined with other syntaxes to customize a search. See site: below.

Example: intitle:”civil liberties” terrorism inurl:cnn
Example: intitle:turkey intitle:carve inurl:
Example: inurl:butterflygardening

site:

This syntax allows you to limit a search to a site or a top level domain.  It is similar to inurl: but will not search for a site within a subdirectory (i.e., anything beyond the /).  Some advantages to using inurl: over site: are:
You can use inurl: by itself without using any other search terms or
      syntaxes.
You can use inurl: to search subdirectories.

Example:  intitle:”hate crimes” site:gov
Example:  intitle:”hate crimes” OR “gay bashing” site:org
Example: intitle:”binge drinking” site:edu

intext:

This syntax searches for words in only the text of a Web site.  It ignores link text, URLs and titles which makes it a useful syntax for finding search words that are commonly used in URLs or links.  It can be effectively combined with other syntaxes to customize a search.

Example: intext:html site:edu
Example: intext:google.com inurl:help

inanchor:

This syntax searches for text in a Web site’s link anchors (i.e., the text you click on get to a Web site).  Since the anchor text for a link is usually descriptive of the page it links to, the inanchor: syntax can be a useful way to limit a search to relevant sites.  It can be effectively combined with other syntaxes to customize a search.

Example:  inanchor:”Google Help”
Example:  inanchor:AIDS inanchor:grants site:gov

For a fun experiment, try typing your name as a phrase with the inanchor: syntax!

link:

This syntax returns a list of Web sites linking to a specific URL.  The link: syntax can not be combined with another syntax.

Example: link:www.linccweb.org

daterange:

This syntax allows you to limit a search to a specific date or range of dates that a site was indexed by Google (this is not the same as the date the site was created.) The only drawback to this syntax is that it works with the Julian Calendar, not the Gregorian Calendar (the one we use).  To use daterange: first go to the Julian Date Converter at the U.S. Naval Observatory (http://aa.usno.navy.mil/data/docs/JulianDate.html).

Example: intitle:”george bush” daterange:2452389-2452389 (this would search for April 24, 2002)

filetype:

This syntax searches for specific filename extensions.  Google searches for PowerPoint (.ppt), (.xls), and Word (.doc) documents as well as Adobe Acrobat (.pdf), Adobe Postscript (.ps) and Rich Text Format (.rtf).

Example: intitle:”hate crimes” filetype:pdf
Example: intitle:google filetype:doc
Example: intitle:”date rape” site:edu filetype:ppt

related:

This syntax searches for Web sites related or similar to a specified URL.  This is a good way to retrieve categories or types of Web sites.

Example:  related:google.com
Example:  related:www.linccweb.org

info:

This syntax provides a page of links to more information about a specified URL including a link to the page’s cache, a list of Web sites that link to the specified URL, a list of Web sites related to the specified URL and Web sites that contain the specified URL.

Example:  info:cnn.com

I do believe that this techniques will ease your life in finding what you want in google and not just putting the “words+words” and then pressing Search Button.

Google, How Popular You are?

google_ad_section_start–>

It was posted in googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com on how to discover your links at Google. They have introduced the webmaster tools in addition to their link: operator  but what is the difference? They have explained it below.

Unlike the link: operator, this data is much more comprehensive and can be classified, filtered, and downloaded. All you need to do is verify site ownership to see this information.

I have tried to verify the site ownership but the problem in this one is you have to put some meta tag on your header.. I have hard time locating it on the blogger since I an not a programmer. They also divided the links into two types external and internal as described below

What are external links?
External links to your site are the links that reside on pages that do not belong to your . For example, if you are viewing links for http://www.google.com/, all the links that do not originate from pages on any subdomain of google.com would appear as external links to your site.

What are internal links?
Internal links to your site are the links that reside on pages that belong to your domain. For example, if you are viewing links for http://www.google.com/, all the links that originate from pages on any subdomain of google.com, such as http://www.google.com/ or mobile.google.com, would appear as internal links to your site.

You can also view links to a page on your site, find links to a specific page on your site, Viewing internal links, Downloading links data but till now I am still studying how to do this site mapping I am having hard time to understand the direction of Google. Maybe somebody could .more here
