Mobile technology is now advancing in it’s fullness, the main aim is to work the mobile phone like a minicomputer, Nvidia has announce in the Mobile World Congress @ Barcelona that it is working with Google to build support for Linux applications on smartphones with its Tegra mobile chips which was formally announced last June 2008.

Nvidia said that Tegra chips would bring advanced graphics capabilities to smartphones while drawing less power.  NVDIA brought the technology at Barcelona and shows an Android-based phone with a Tegra chip at the GSMA Mobile World Congress.

Tegra-based phones will combine advanced graphics, better battery life and always-on Internet access, Nvidia said in a press release. Smartphone makers can now use the Android platform to build Web 2.0 and Internet-based applications for Tegra-based smartphones, the company said.

Tegra chips put an Arm-based processor core, a GeForce graphics core and other components on a single chip. The product lineup includes the Tegra 600 running at 700MHz and Tegra 650 running at 800MHz. It also includes Tegra APX 2500 and APX 2600.

The systems-on-chips will start shipping in mid-2009 for handheld devices like smartphones and mobile Internet devices. Nvidia couldn’t immediately name companies that may ship smartphones with the chips. However, an analyst last week speculated that Microsoft would launch a smartphone with Tegra’s APX 2600 chip at MWC.

Beyond open-source support, Tegra chips also support Windows-based applications. At last year’s MWC, Nvidia announced Tegra would support Windows Mobile and enable 3D user interfaces and high-definition video on smartphones.

A $99 Tegra-based MID is expected to be announced by Nvidia at MWC. The MID includes full high-definition 1080p video playback and full Wi-Fi and 3G mobile broadband connectivity capabilities. { Source : pcworld.com }

Have you seen the Hidden Menu in Google Phone ? Well Google Mobile Blog has just announced about it. Google added a hidden menu, which it revealed today on the Google Mobile Blog.

It may seem surprising that no one found it earlier, but when you try to get to it you’ll see why. When you launch the Google iPhone app and select the settings area, you’ll see a few options to configure the app. But while it may not look like there’s anything below the “About” selection, swipe your finger upward to go below. See anything? You probably don’t yet — keep swiping.

It takes a little bit of effort, but eventually a “Bells and Whistles” menu appears below the “About” menu. Clicking on this takes you to a new screen with even more options for the app including the ability to change its color to anything you want, the option to have the app’s default sound replaced by monkey or chicken noises, an option to see live waveform show up as you talk and the option to open links in the app itself (which really should have been a regular option in the first place).

It’s an interesting use of the iPhone’s touch feature to reveal an Easter Egg.

About 100,000 Sony Lithium-Ion batteries used in Hewlett-Packard, Toshiba and Dell notebooks have been recalled. 35,000 batteries of these batteries were sold in the US.

Some details about these batteries:

• They were sold at the same time as the batteries involved in the widescale 2006 Sony battery recall.
• These batteries can “overheat, posing a fire and burn hazard to consumers.”
• The damage so far: “There have been 19 reports of the batteries overheating, including 17 reports of flames/fire (10 resulting in minor property damage). Two consumers experienced minor burns.”
• Affected system include:
  - HP (accounting for some 32,000 of the 35,000 sold in the US)
  HP Pavilion: dv1000, dv8000 and zd8000
