CES 2009: Toshiba’s Cell TV prototype can record six HD streams at once

The CPU is best known for being the computing guts inside the PlayStation 3, but has also integrated it into its Qosmio line as well. It has a more exciting use in store for it, however, as part of your home theater setup. The company is displaying a prototype at that combines a 3,840×2,160-pixel (or 4k) along with a set-top box that can record up to six HD programs at once. Yes, you read that right: a half-dozen high-def streams at the same time. The box’s is larger than others of its ilk, but that’s the price you pay for HD nirvana.

Toshiba plans to release the Cell TV system later in the year. Cable companies and Tivo can probably breathe easy for the time being, since the units will no doubt cost an arm and a leg: $5,000 to $10,000 according to the EE Times. But the days of only being able to record a limited number of shows (especially in HD) at the same time on a set-top DVR could thankfully be numbered.

CES-Yahoo unveils partners for Web TV push

Inc unveiled on Wednesday a list of partners to aid its push to bring the Internet and together, hoping their joint effort will finally connect with consumers.

At the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Yahoo said it has forged deals with companies including Electronics Co Ltd , Electronics Inc , Sony Corp  and Vizio, which will make high-definition TVs that support Yahoo’s online service.

Ever since the dawn of the Internet Age, tech companies have been promising to bring "convergence" of the online and TV universes, but those efforts have failed to take off with consumers who have found such products difficult to use.

The new TVs announced on Wednesday will be in the market as early as the spring and will support widgets — small Internet applications — that run alongside broadcast TV content, but not over it.

SanDisk "Ultra" versions of their 16GB MicroSD

SanDisk "Ultra" versions of their 16GB MicroSD

So here is new in Mini Storage Industry. just announced "Ultra" versions of their 16GB MicroSD and M2 , which fit into phones. The new Ultra cards transfer files to and from PCs faster than existing non-ultra cards.

The new card’s ultra speeds seem to only come into play when you’re using them with a dedicated, PC-based card reader – not if they’re plugged into a already. That’s because the speed of transferring files directly to a is usually limited by the , not by the memory card.

The new 16GB Mobile Ultra MicroSD will cost $119.99 and the 16GB M2 card (which works with Sony Ericsson phones) will cost $129.99. Both will go on sale this month.

I believed it will be great to those Mobile users like me. Taking pictures kills my 2 GB Memory in my cellphone.

Wireless Induction Chargers at CES 2009

image

The Wireless Induction Chargers by .

It has been estimated that the Powermats will hit store shelves this fall. The mats will come in five versions: family mat for charging up to six gadgets, a smaller fold-up mat for travel, PC mat for charging laptops, desk mat that comes with a wireless speaker and a bedside mat with a rechargeable clock.

Each mat will cost around $100. But that’s not all. You’ll also have to buy receivers — doodads that connect your devices to the mats and conduct the charge. Those will set you back around $30 a pop. So waving goodbye to wired chargers might also mean parting with a good chunk of change.

CES 2009 : New Netbooks, Laptops from Asus

CES 2009 : New Netbooks, Laptops from AsusAsus also introduced New line of Netbook and Laptops. Asus introduced a number of new laptops at . Among them are an ultraportable that runs like a race car (the Lamborghini VX5), a tablet PC (the Eee PC T91), and an even slimmer, sleeker netbook. We can say that the high-style Lamborghini VX5 is a premium machine. The VX5 is largely black, with yellow highlights inside and a whole lot of Italian leather stitched into the carbon-fiber chassis.

Other highlights include a backlit keyboard/mouse combo and an ambient-light sensor akin to what you see on the Air. Revving underneath the hood (and you think I’m just being metaphorical…when you powered up the VX3, you’d hear a car roar) is an Intel quad-core processor, up to 4GB of DDR2 RAM, room for two SATA hard drives, and "the latest GPU."

Besides being able to run Windows Vista on its 16-inch, 1920-by-1080-pixel display, the VX5 also offers an ExpressGate mode; this Linux shell boots up in 8 seconds and provides access to the most basic multimedia and online functions. Among the other features are a 2-megapixel Webcam, a TV tuner, and 802.11n and Bluetooth 2.1+ EDR support. That’s saying nothing of the wireless broadband built into the device, and the fact that it is WiMax-ready.

Asus’s second model, is the S121, technically isn’t a netbook. Nor is it a further refinement of the already-refined N10Jc, according to Asus. The less-than-an-inch-thick metallic frame with leather trim houses a machine that attempts to fill the void between netbook and notebook. While the S121 does have an Atom processor, nobody will mistake it for a budget box after a look at its 12.1-inch, LED, active-matrix TFT, 1280-by-800-pixel display (presented with edge-to-edge glass) and its roomy 128GB solid-state drive. the S121, Asus claims, can survive upward of 10 hours on an internal and external battery working together.

The S121 could be a great, lightweight (about 2.6 pounds), road-ready companion. But it will be facing a lot of stiff competition in the coming year, from, say, the surfacing of a new tweener class of portables using everything from nVidia’s Ion platform to Via processors and whatever else has to show off.

The other big coming from Asus’s stables is the only one clinging to the Eee name: the Eee PC T91 Tablet. Think of it as a touch-screen variant of the 8.9-inch, 901-series models that broke out on the scene in 2008. This hybrid netbook operates the same way as full-blown convertible laptops do, offering a screen capable of rotating 180 degrees. The T91 will offer built-in GPS functionality, a TV tuner, and an FM transmitter. It has the potential to be one well-rounded, affordable, portable entertainer.

So here you are and more to be revealed this week with 2009.
