My Other site is not functioning Well

It is not a good day today since, my techathand.net is not functioning well today. I don’t know what had happend since all my database has gone. The sad thing is I don’t know if my back up works. If Jeff can fix it, Then it will be good.

Another lesson learned today is back up your files regularly. I don’t know If I am hacked or what, Since How come that all my database will be lost in the air.

I am just praying the Jeff from hosting can fix it.

I really have to learn how to manipulate the cPanel.. Maybe I have to buy another domain and start playing with it.

I need help for my new domain

I just purchased a new domain ( www.techathand.net ) and actually I bought that domain for this site. Now the problem I do not know how to install this to the blogspot.com. Actually I have tried just a couple of hours ago and I did not succeed to divert my blogs to my new domain.

I have already contacted www.ploghost.com where I bought my new domain and I know they will respond soon.

But if there are Filipino readers out there who could help me out. It will be my pleasure. That is the reason why I blog about this.

I will update this post whenever my new domain is working.

A Supernoobice Guide to Earning Money Online

Below is a blog post of my first ever guest blogger.Enjoy reading..

Introduction

If you haven’t heard about blogging, then you must be living under the rocks. Blogging or web log is a website where entries are written in chronological order and visitors may leave a comment for a particular post. Blogs vary from different niche. There are photo blogs, online diaries, adult blogs, entertainment, sports and so on. Sky is the limit of what you may think of to blog. The fun of blogging is that you can make anything bloggable and be unique. People blog for therapeutic reasons, some for rants, some just for fun and others for money.

So let’s have a typical idea of how much, really does a blog income produce.

This guy is a little disappointed receiving his pay check from google. 

dcpanganiban’s check

I have posted a link on my blog about these people who earned money through blogging. From tech blogs, odd news, to cats talking crap.  Have a quick view to all of them.

Read Full Article About Top Bloggers and Their Income

So I guess that warmed you up. To give you a quick overview of what you’ll get in this guide is all listed below.

Guide Overview:

• Creating accounts for money making network ads.

• Get all necessary files to start your blog.

Tips in writing and managing you blog.

• Monetizing Your Blog

• Blog Promotion

My Personal Story

Meet the Master

As may you all know, I don’t have talent to write nor did I know how to earn money online. I learned about email during my second year in college and my classmates thought I was joking. I got my computer on my 4th year of college. And afford to buy my own laptop through online money making while still struggling to pass that software engineering subject. Arrrrrgh!!!.

As I got into the company I’m working now, I met people that are uber in this field of money making. They come across as arrogant because they’re always talking about money. But for me, they are good hearted people that wanted to share their knowledge and talk about their experience.

I made friends with retzwerx, if you don’t know him, ask a fellow blogger, he won the Philippine Blog Awards for an entertainment blog focusing on Pinoy Big Brother. Well, he got excited and showed me a peek of his income.

Sounds good? It is. It’s dated June 14, 2007. Yep it’s not even end of the month yet and he earned that much.

As we got closer, the more I know how to make money online. He is just soooo good on the subject that it comes natural. His enthusiasm is very contagious and I’m always excited to hear what he’s going to say next because what he says are gold nuggets ready to be picked up by all who noticed them.

My Own Style

One day, I came up with an idea to share what I learned with this guy and probably help others to earn money online. Anyone can do this, all you have to do is follow and understand everything stated here. Ok, understand? Now sit, then rollover… lol. Just kidding.

After following his advices and picking up those gold nuggets, I was able to make money on my own, at home.

I know its crap compared to what he’s earning but I hope you get my point. By the way, that interface isn’t google. It’s xoom, I wanted to get away with what he teach and try my own way of earning money. But the principle is still the same as to what I will write here in the guide. I do hope I’m making myself clear here.

What’s the catch?

What’s the catch? There is no catch, totally nothing. All I ask is a link of my site (http://supernoobice.com) from your site and that would helpYou may also distribute this article to everyone you know. I don’t care. But please give proper credits.

Creating accounts for money making network ads

Recommended Money Makers

The following are the best ad networks and affiliate systems for start up sites in my opinion. They provide support and information and most of all, on time payments.

Google Adsense

Google Adsense is probably the most popular ad network on the internet. It pays you for every click on the ads. You have the chance to customize ad links to match your site theme. You definitely want to signup for adsense. Minimum payout is $100 and payments are made every month.

Sign Up for Google Adsense

Bidvertiser

Bidvertiser is a CPC ad that competes with Google Adsense. The only advantage so far is that it has a low pay out. Meaning, at a minimum of $10, you may receive your earnings. For cash check payments, a minimum of $50.

Sign Up for Bidvertiser

Auction Ads

Action ads allow you to post relative items from eBay on your site. User clicks and money comes rolling in. You may want to check it out. If you’re planning to have a site with selling items, you may want to try Audtion Ads and get paid by every transaction and user clicks.

Sign Up for Auction Ads

AGLOCO

AGLOCO is a toolbar for advertising. If you use the toolbar, you will be given share of your ad money. They will also pay you if you refer other people to use the toolbar. The more people you refer the more you can potentially make. AGLOCO is still in startup and unproven. But since the cost of investment is ZERO, it’s worth a try. It is also the only ad network here that doesn’t require a website.

Sign Up for AGLOCO

Exoclick

Here comes an alternative to Adsense that are more “mature” in nature. One of the distinct feature of Exoclick is that it allows mature ads for adult related websites. But that’s not the only thing that makes Exoclick an Adsense alternative….

Sign Up Exoclick

Get All Necessary Files

Get a Domain and Hosting

Nothing beats a personal domain and web space, but if you’re broke you don’t want to spend money, stay with free hosing if you like. But please make it a must to get out of free hosting and brand your own website if you have the chance. The money and effort are worth it on personal website because once the blog is popular, it is YOUR site that is popular and not the free blog hosting. Besides, it would make you look professional. 

The money you invest on a domain and hosting will greatly outnumbered by the money coming in once you got your blog rolling.

There are lots of cheap hosting packages floating around. But I use www.bigskymedia.net simply because its cheap for only P50 a month. =)

Disclaimer: I don’t have any connection with bigskymedia.

Tips in selecting a domain name:

• Pick a domain name that reflects you.

• Pick a domain name that will reflect the most important subject of your blog. For example, if you are blogging about pictures of nude monkeys, you may want to buy a domain like www.nudemonkeys.com. So that it would be search engine optimized. (More on that later).

WordPress – The Blogging Machine

There are lots of blogging scripts out there but for this guide we will use wordpress. You may want to download the latest file at WordPress.org or if you have a cpanel try looking for the “Fantastico” icon and click it.

You will be directed to a page with list of all possible applications you may install on your hosting. Look for wordpress. It should be there. If not, download wordpress on the above link.

Pick a Theme

You may want to have a stylish look on your blog. Free resources such as this are elegant. Just download and install.

Tips in writing and managing you blog

Blog things that your passionate about

If you are not passionate about your topic then you might have a big problem in growing your blog. People know and can smell through you and through your post if you’re just in for the money.

Whatever happens, don’t do it for the money. Blog things that you enjoy story telling to others and the money will come later.

Blog in a consistent basis

A blog with no blog is a dead blog. Always remember, that an outdated blog is a dead blog. Decide on what frequency will make a post. Once a week, once a day, whatever, and stick with it!

Remember that you may want to keep readers from coming back. Think what will happen when they return and see post made a month ago? Of course, they won’t visit your site ever again and you lost a potential reader and maybe a customer.

Interact with readers

Blogging is building a community, kindly reply to comments in a positive manner. Meet and know other bloggers as they are also potential readers. It’s all about being active in the blogosphere.

Link out hearts

If you have friends who blog exchange link with them. If you don’t then find a friend online that blogs and exchange links.

“Blog Hopping” is a good way. Where you visit one blog to another then leave comments with your site url.

Brand Yourself

What makes your blog different from millions of blog around the world? Brand yourself, give your own opinions on topic you selected. Every point of view, rants and raves are unique for each person and also the way you communicate it.

Be a Good Writer

You don’t really have to be a good writer. What I meant by this is that you should have a good way of expressing your points across.

Monetizing Your Blog

Ok here it is!!! It is time to earn some money. You may need to sign up to at least one ad network to go on with this guide. I suggest you go with google adsense first or go with all. Its your choice. But for the meantime, I’ll be using google adsense as an example. Same logic applies to all ad networks.

1. First of all download and the wordpress login called “Adsense Deluxe” .

2. Login to you adsense account and click on the Adsense setup tab.

You may pick 3 types of adsense product. For now, click on the “Adsense for Content”.

3. Select Ad unit and then select text ads only. Then hit continue.

4. You will be directed to a page where you may customize the look of your ad. For the Format of our ad, select the 728×90 Leaderboard option on the drop down menu for now.

5. Now select the colors for border, title, text, url and background.

6. At this point you hit continue or ad more appealing effects to you ad by the added options, like having a rounded corner for the ad blocks.

7. Hit continue.

8. You are then directed to the Choose Channel page. Add a new channel and then hit continue.

Let me explain to you what channel does. Channel allows you to monitor which ads is generating money. For example, I added snoobLeaderboard for our ad. If that ad generated money, I would have the chance to know and basically analyze which ad to improve, change or discharge.

9. This is the final page. This page gives you the code that you will insert on your page. If you still want to customize and go back to the previous steps, just hit the back button.

10. Copy the code and fire up your WordPress Admin Page. I am now on the Presentation Tab of my Admin area.

11. I am using Fluid Solution Theme for this example.

On the Presentation Tab, there are lists of more tabs under it, namely, Themes, Widgets, Theme Editor. If you don’t have a Widgets tab, do not worry, you will still be able to follow along, it’s not necessary to have one. It’s a sort of added feature installed on my WordPress.

12. On the right side of the Theme Editor page, you will see a list of pages that you may edit that makes all of your blog. You may edit it and give a personal look on the page. For now, we are focused mainly on putting our Google Ad on the homepage.

13. Click on the Main Index Template. And the code should show up on the left side pane of the page.

14. Don’t be intimidated by the code. All we have to know is where to paste our google ad code. Browsing from our Homepage Template code, look for this code:

15. All you have to do is paste the code in place of the <PASTE GOOGLE CODE HERE> so it would look like this.

16. Now that you’re done, click Update File and preview your ad.

17. Now that you made your first Google ads and placed it on your homepage all that is left is to explore and experiment. Same goes for other ad networks.

Try new combinations and placements, try other Google Ad sizes. For more tips about Google Ad Placement visit Google’s Optimization tips.

Blog Promotion

Let’s summarize the things we have from this point. And make sure that everything’s laid out.

• We have our blog.

• We have a posting schedule.

• We have ads.

All that is left now is to promote our blog. Remember that traffic is important in the world of blogging and traffic means readers, visitors and money.

Write Good Content

Make it a habit to write quality content. If you write good articles, many would like to link to your site. When that happens, you increase your site’s visibility and more and more blogs will want to visit you for more quality contents.

The most important of all, if many sites link to you because of your content, you also increase the chance of being indexed on page 1 of google when users search for certain keywords relevant to your articles.

Once you have a striking content, you may want to submit them on digg You get popularity when readers “DIG” your content. Which in return generates more traffic.

Submit to Web Directories

By submitting to web directories, you help search engines to categorize your blog and makes it easier to be found. Here are some of the lists of directories you may submit your site. Remember that there are free and paid web directories, if you’re not willing to pay until your blog is earning, free web directories is the way to go. Just search, there are tons of it.

Big Blogs

Look for popular blogs that have top commentator list. Try to be the top commentators on these blog. Technorati has 100 lists of top blogs. You may want to join in and be one of the top commentators.

Customize Your Permalinks for Search Engine

WordPress has this option wherein you may change the link name of every post on your blog. Instead of seeing http://supernoobice.com/?p=123,you may want change it to something like http://supernoobice.com/money/make-money/ so that google, and other search engine spiders may crawl on your links for easy indexing.

To change the permalinks, go to your Options Tab then click on Permalinks on the sub tab.

Click on the Custom, Specify Below radio tab and type in /%postname%/ on the text field.

After that Update your permalinks.

Note: Search Engine Optimization is such a broad subject, and there are tons of ways to do SEO. You may want to look for resources related to SEO, Search Engine Optimization, to further know the subject.

Last Few Words

There’s no quick and easy way to earn cash, whether online or offline. Why people walk away from this business unsuccessful is that they often quit too early. Try to do things differently if things don’t go according to plan, and eventually, you’ll be making your site successful.

A Helpful Tool To Check Your Blogs Stats

Yesterday I received an email from Yahoogroups regarding helpful Tools from a Filipino Blogger.

I love helpful tools and I’ve done a weekend project to skin Xinu. I had fun!
What is Xinu (unix spelled backward)? It’s a tool to help you check your blog’s (or even someone’s) PageRank, Alexa rank, backlinks, feed subscribers, technorati rank, domain validation/diagnostics and much more. You can also use it for your website.
Xinu has also a reporting tool to save it as PDF if you need to print (still scratchy).
Visit:
http://xinu.techhive.net
It currently works with IE7, FF2, Opera 9.x and Netscape 9. Please let me know if it’s useful to you. :)

From : AJ ( pictures also captured from AJ Site )

I may say that I am impress on that project. The only thing I cannot understand at the report is the Validation part, I got the following result

XHTML : 582 errors, Not valid

CSS : 12 errors, Not valid

RSS : 9 errors, Not valid

I am not a programmer, But will somebody help me understand this. Will it affect my page? or what.

In my overall opinion the site is very helpful it is a 1 stop page to get the desired stats. Great job for the programmer.

A Wonderful Review and A Big Thanks to SELAPLANA.COM

I would like to thank selaplana.com for reviewing my site in response to my review on his site. Below are some points that caught my attention as follows

I couldn’t tell when did this blog has started because RexTed decided not to display the monthly archive of this blog

Well actually I have the archive it is just folded down below the  right sidebar, A tick would reveal that I started this blog last January 2007.

However, I want to tell him that the Most Visited Posts and excel Related Posts showed twice on the sidebar.

Now it has been modified.

In general, the blog is satisfactory. But what got my attention is its host and domain which are all hosted by blogspot.com.

Actually I have been thinking to moving on my own domain but the problem , I do not know how I can manages this things since I am at Saudi Arabia. Perhaps I can do this during my vacation.

But just a question how does Amit Agarwal of India managed to get thousand of dollars thru advertiser having a blogspot.com domain.? and also Euleh who is a sucessful blogger in Philippines? This is just a question.

In general It was a really great review and a Thousand thanks to selaplana for having this review.

Converting Internet Blogs into a Mobile Blog Site

Yuga had made a question into his blog ” Is your blog .mobi ready? ” and gave some suggestion and Pluggins for WordPress and Typepad but was not able to provide for Blogger Platform.

My suggestion is to use the service of winksite.com where in your feeds will be converted into a mobile ready blog. It is a site which will convert a blog to a mobile blog.

You are allowed to make a  5 free site. I have made an address for this blogsite that could be accessed on your mobile phone ( http://winksite.com/dcpanganiban/Techathand ) the only difference is that this site address will not be the same as your original blog domain address. And the advantage will be less KB to download since it will only show the text portion of the blog.

Below is the details found in their site:

Winksite makes it easy to publish mobile Internet sites and build simple mobile connections via mobile phones. At Winksite you can:

» Create a mobile web site & profile.

» Mobilize your Blog, Twitter, Jaiku, & Upcoming feeds.

» Activate mobile-tuned features like chat, forums, & surveys.

» Join mobile communities, connect with friends, or meet new people.

You may create a free winksite account here. What about you, Do you have any suggestion?

Google Searches Made Easy

How much time do you spend searching in google? And then after your searches it result to nothing. So I suggest be smart on searching the net. Below syntax is very useful in finding information in the internet.

intitle:

This syntax restricts a search to titles of Web sites; it can be effectively combined with other syntaxes to customize a search.  An alternative syntax, allintitle: looks for all the words in the title of a Web site; allintitle: does not mix well with other syntaxes.

Example: intitle:”bob marley” “popular music”

inurl:

This syntax restricts a search to the URLs of Web sites.  It can be an effective way to find sites from within a domain, directory or path; it can also be effectively combined with other syntaxes to customize a search. See site: below.

Example: intitle:”civil liberties” terrorism inurl:cnn
Example: intitle:turkey intitle:carve inurl:help
Example: inurl:butterflygardening

site:

This syntax allows you to limit a search to a site or a top level domain.  It is similar to inurl: but will not search for a site within a subdirectory (i.e., anything beyond the /).  Some advantages to using inurl: over site: are:
You can use inurl: by itself without using any other search terms or
      syntaxes.
You can use inurl: to search subdirectories.

Example:  intitle:”hate crimes” site:gov
Example:  intitle:”hate crimes” OR “gay bashing” site:org
Example: intitle:”binge drinking” site:edu

intext:

This syntax searches for words in only the text of a Web site.  It ignores link text, URLs and titles which makes it a useful syntax for finding search words that are commonly used in URLs or links.  It can be effectively combined with other syntaxes to customize a search.

Example: intext:html site:edu
Example: intext:google.com inurl:help

inanchor:

This syntax searches for text in a Web site’s link anchors (i.e., the text you click on get to a Web site).  Since the anchor text for a link is usually descriptive of the page it links to, the inanchor: syntax can be a useful way to limit a search to relevant sites.  It can be effectively combined with other syntaxes to customize a search.

Example:  inanchor:”Google Help
Example:  inanchor:AIDS inanchor:grants site:gov

For a fun experiment, try typing your name as a phrase with the inanchor: syntax!

link:

This syntax returns a list of Web sites linking to a specific URL.  The link: syntax can not be combined with another syntax.

Example: link:www.linccweb.org

daterange:

This syntax allows you to limit a search to a specific date or range of dates that a site was indexed by Google (this is not the same as the date the site was created.) The only drawback to this syntax is that it works with the Julian Calendar, not the Gregorian Calendar (the one we use).  To use daterange: first go to the Julian Date Converter at the U.S. Naval Observatory (http://aa.usno.navy.mil/data/docs/JulianDate.html).

Example: intitle:”george bush” daterange:2452389-2452389 (this would search for April 24, 2002)

filetype:

This syntax searches for specific filename extensions.  Google searches for PowerPoint (.ppt), Excel (.xls), and Word (.doc) documents as well as Adobe Acrobat (.pdf), Adobe Postscript (.ps) and Rich Text Format (.rtf).

Example: intitle:”hate crimes” filetype:pdf
Example: intitle:google filetype:doc
Example: intitle:”date rape” site:edu filetype:ppt

related:

This syntax searches for Web sites related or similar to a specified URL.  This is a good way to retrieve categories or types of Web sites.

Example:  related:google.com
Example:  related:www.linccweb.org

info:

This syntax provides a page of links to more information about a specified URL including a link to the page’s cache, a list of Web sites that link to the specified URL, a list of Web sites related to the specified URL and Web sites that contain the specified URL.

Example:  info:cnn.com

I do believe that this techniques will ease your life in finding what you want in google and not just putting the “words+words” and then pressing Search Button.

How E-mail being track

It’s been a long question in my memory on how do investigators track the location of the e-mail. Until I found out a post from Daily Cup of Tech that  E-Mail could be track using the Email Header. I tried to understand this thing and stopspam.org helps a lot also to understand how it can be done.

You can also see some useful information regarding the anatomy of the email here , here and

Below listed Online tools has also been identified by Daily Cup Tech as a useful tools when it come to Email Tracking

  • Email Graphic Traceroute – A very useful and easy to use tool. Simply paste your header into the web page and it will generate a Google map mashup showing you exactly where the e-mail has gone.
  • Geobytes Free Services – A huge list of useful free services that all rely on being able to associate an IP address to a physical location. These services include:
  • DNS Report – A very comprehensive look at a specific domain name. Also provides an option to check an e-mail address.
  • Network Tools – A lot of very useful IP and DNS tools including:
    • ping
    • lookup
    • trace route
    • whois

In general there are still ways to alter this header by a professional hackers I may say.. and definitely i am not that one. If any of you have more information on how to get this header in an email it will be appreciated to increase knowledge about this things. But frankly speaking I am still having a hard time to get this header. Because I cannot find it on my outlook. LOL

Dedicated Server do I need this?

This is an sponsored review

This site is now hosted through Blogger.com with free domain by google. Lots of Problogger in the Industry tells that if you use a free blog the chance of gaining much more income is very less compared to those which have their own domain and host.

There are lots of factors need to consider in having your own Domain and Server. One thing is the Budget. Ofcourse if you are using a free hosting that will only mean that you will not pay anything as long as you are using the name ( i.e XXXX.blogspot.com, XXXX.wordpress.com ). If you  are having a low budget by you want to get away those free blogs you can use and apply for a shared server. But if you have a good budget and want full control for your site you will then go to a Dedicated Servers.

Why do you need to have a dedicated server?

If you want Total control allowing you to install, configure, and manage your web applications the way you want and without interference.  If you need flexibility and control of your hosting environment, a Dedicated Servers is an excellent choice for you.

And since this is an sponsored review by ServePath I migh as well do some comment / reviews for their site.

My Review for ServePath

If you want to know more about Dedicated Server you might visit their home Page. The Site is well design and full of information that you are looking. With a 6 years experience in the industry and still running the site seem to be dependable. You will never be lost on site. The site will also gives you an impression on what service they are giving.

Their service amount ranges from US$ 99 to US$ 599 + setup which depend the suitability of your requirements.

So i think this is it. Although I still have to save some more money to be able to get a Shared server or a dedicated server in the future. But I have to start saving now..

New Domain of Kumiko

Well me I am planning to get my own domain but this might come true before the end of this year. Maybe after earning some bucks from the adsense on my other site, then this dream shall come true.

A blogger who is using blogspot.com as her domain has decided to have her own domain. In relation to this decided to start a Cash Quest Competition . Her blogs deals with  how to make money online . The Prize is about $100.00 to the lucky winner who will participate on her new Competition.

I think Kumiko’s blog is still hosted by blogspot.com using  her own domain name. This is the advantage of Blogspot.com compared to WordPress.com. Since if you are using WordPress.com You have to pay US $10 in Domain redirecting. but in Blogspot.com it is free.

Didi I told you that this post is equivalent to 150 Tickets on her Competition.

I am wondering if I could use my PDA Mobile with Windows Mobiles 5 in receiving my e-mail at the office using POP and it succeed. How do I make it? just follow the settings mentioned below

e-mail Address : youremailadd@gmail.com

username : youremailadd@gmail.com

incoming mail server : pop.gmail.com

outgoing mail serer : smtp.gmail.com

Domain : ” Blank”

Incoming Mail server required SSL authentication : ” Check it “

Outgoing Mail server required SSL authentication : ” Check it “

use separate setting : ” Do not check “

Get message header only

This is also applicable if you have a company e-mail. When you tried top open your email thru the net using Microsoft exchange server or whatever try to look at the lower left corner of the screen while the net is asking the password, this number which could you see at the lower left end is usually the incoming mail server / outgoing mail server of your company then follow other details as mention above.
